Identity Design - logo lockups - patterns

Better Family Life–Minnesota (BFL–MN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to family development, improved livability, and social accountability in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota. The organization believes thriving families are the foundation of stable and healthy communities.

The BFL–MN team approached Bone Designs for help updating their branding. The outdated logo no longer served the organization, and it was time to align the brand to the organization’s values and mission. In addition to a new logo, BFL–MN was interested in developing supporting brand assets.

The Big Challenge

The BFL–MN team asked Bone Designs to create a unique brand that spoke to the values of BFL–MN. The brand needed to be welcoming, inclusive, and bold. As the organization serves a primarily African American population, the non-profit wanted to include traditional adinkra symbols into the logo design and brand assets.

The Bone Designs Solution

After consultation with the BFL–MN team, Bone Designs got to work on a graphic design solution for the non-profit. After some creative time sketching out different designs, we settled on a bold, blocky design that features the fihankra, a West African symbol of security and safety. Literally, fihankra means “house.” With BFL–MN’s focus on family, this was a good choice for their logo design.

After the logo was designed, Bone Designs got to work on BFL–MN’s other brand assets. We designed textures that included more adinkra symbols from West African culture. Once everything was complete, we created a brand guide that included all the assets, plus BFL–MN’s brand colors and font styles. Bone Designs also mocked up a blade sign with BFL–MN’s logo.
